One of the most highly anticipated movies in the new year is “Jumper” starring Hayden Christianson from Star Wars and well that’s where the confusion begins.
If anybody saw the early movie trailers or commercials it stars the IMDB veteran Samuel L Jackson and the trailer leads you to believe that it about two people with super powers able to travel the world and fight to the death in your classic good vs. evil.
Jackson plays a Godfatheresque role advising the two opponents and then you get some cheesy line about Jump to movies in February and watch the action flick.
But…As we near the release date of the film there is marketing shift.
If you have seen the new trailers for “Jumper” it still stars Hayden Christianson but it now it’s clear who the costar is…the gorgeous, beautiful and any other superlative you think of Rachel Bilson from The O.C.
This plot is these two couples are in love and after a few steamy sex scenes something happens to Bilson and now he Christianson must save her.
So…
What does this all mean??? Well for me, I feel this is a significant change in how movies like these will be marketed as an action flick geared to males… A date movie for younger audiences…A romantic movie for women…or a bust to be on the worst of 08 lists.
Regardless of who sees this movie you read it here first—“Jumper” will be a change of movie promotions based on the demographics that go to the movies so beware of the message your weakening dollar is sending.
